Research, write, research, write and on and on!
As the headline suggests, I’ve been busy researching and writing my new novel, The Doll Maker, which is why I have been tardy as of late, keeping my social networks full with posts and updates! My writing process is probably different than other writers who do their research up front and then write the book. I like the surprise element, which is why I research to a point and then write until the story requires more research to move forward. For me, I think this process keeps

Updates from Erndell Scott's Desk
Every day I receive emails from readers from all over the world sharing their wonderful thoughts about the journey they go on when they read my new novel, Paper Boats. I’m very humbled people are enjoying the experience. Many readers compliment the unique writing style and voice of storytelling and how it sweeps them off their feet and takes them somewhere unknown, somewhere unexpected emotionally. It’s especially fun to get emails in different languages, but no matter, the s

New Goodreads Review!
Goodreads and Amazon reviewers continue to share their experiences reading Paper Boats, my breakout historical fiction adventure novel. This week, I received a new review from someone who loved the book on Goodreads and rated it 5 stars. It is this type of response from readers that motivates me to continue writing and creating original work. If you haven't already, please share your own review of Paper Boats - positive or negative, I enjoy getting the feedback! Here is the l

An "Equal" to Paper Boats
I continue to write and rewrite my next novel, The Doll Maker, which is a companion book to my newly released novel, Paper Boats. I say companion because this book follows one of the characters on their journey at the same time Otto, from Paper Boats, is on his. It’s not a prequel, or even a sequel. I guess that makes it an “equal." While I’m proud of Paper Boats, it being my first effort, The Doll Maker will be much different, which should be expected as I’m a better writer

#WriterWednesday
I received an inspirational email from a fellow author who extended to me his supportive words of encouragement and good-cheer. I love those kinds of emails! This writer had read Paper Boats and was impressed by the “unorthodox” writing and unique “flavor” (his words) in how I tackled my novel in regard to a historical fiction piece of work. He went on to say it expanded the traditional and typical way of handling this genre and that he was happy to see someone pushing the bo

#FridayWrites
Friday is supposed to be for sharing what book I’m reading, but I’m in the zone writing my new novel, The Doll Maker, and haven’t had much time to do much else. Now I say I’m writing, but what often happens my silly kitty cat wants to sit right on top of me and hang out. It’s taxing enough to write without having to give attention to the cat. I must say, she does create a warm lap on this cold, drizzly spring day, so in regard to that her companionship is delightfully welcom

The Doll Maker
The Television is off and my computer is on. That means I’m writing. A long walk across the fields of my farm has given me lots of ideas, and I’m now getting them down before I forget. Because believe me, I will. I’m working on my next novel, 'The Doll Maker,' a story about Annie, one of the characters in 'Paper Boats.' In this book, we follow Annie on her journey, which happens at the exact time Otto is on his. It will have all the twists and turns of Paper boats but on a mu

Writing Tip: Never Stop Writing
While I have been writing for many, many years, I still consider myself new to the industry. There was a time when I had to have complete silence around me to write. Not even a piece of dust could hit the ground, because I would hear it and it would ruin my thoughts. It was very frustrating but after about six months that all went away. For starters, in my pressed world it just wasn’t realistic. Something always interrupted. I read an article about how Tiger Wood’s father wou

A Time to Celebrate
I sat back on my bench, my little writing area, a sundrenched nook overlooking my fields and the Ohio River, and closed my eyes. I was thinking what a relief it was to finally share with the world my new novel, Paper Boats, a fast-paced suspenseful journey about two boys of different faiths and how they learn acceptance for one another during a very intolerant time, World War Two. But I couldn’t rest and find solace because there was an overwhelming amount of work to be done
